There’s an old adage in the marketing business: you pay for advertising and you pray for publicity. Publicity is the most powerful, believable form of marketing communication. When something appears in print, TV or radio as a news story it has incredible impact. Best of all, it’s free.
The news media—print, radio, TV, web—are in the business of generating and cultivating interesting and topical stories for their readers and viewers. In short, they need news! Sure, there’s always “breaking news” but there’s a whole world of news happening out there that they would never hear about unless someone brought it to their attention. That’s where publicists come in. For a fee—sometimes thousands of dollars per month—publicists can develop story ideas, send out news releases and even “pitch” the media about their clients. Basically, they’re in the business of bringing their clients and the media together. PublicityFinder.com does just that—without the fees associated with a middle-man. PublicityFinder.com is free to credentialed members of the news media—journalists, writers, editors, TV producers all over the world. If they’re looking for news makers, they come here. If they’re looking for an expert to quote on a story they’re working on, they come here. Through our database of profiles, PublicityFinder.com allows the media the opportunity to search our profiles with dozens of search criteria. They can even keyword search our entire database, to find the right company, professional or expert in just a few seconds.
PublicityFinder.com was designed by a group of people with extensive experience in marketing, public relations, publicity, media relations and journalism. The idea was simple; create a national database of profiles featuring companies, organizations, professionals, and high-profile individuals looking for publicity. Then, create a powerful search engine that enables credentialed members of the news media to gain free access to those profiles, through the web.
If you, your publicist or public relations firm is already sending out news releases and pitching story ideas to the media, that’s great. PublicityFinder.com wasn’t designed to eliminate the need for that type of personal service, it was meant to make it more productive by adding a cost-effective and powerful tool for reaching the news media. In fact, many of PublicityFinder.com’s profiles are placed by public relations firms on behalf of their clients. They simply list themselves as the “contact” for the news media to call.
Business and individual profiles are the heart of PublicityFinder.com. Each Subscriber business and individual has a profile, which is the online-document that the news media sees when they call-up your information. It looks a bit like a resume or CV. The information contained in your profile is compiled during an easy step-by-step questionnaire, once your subscription is paid.
There are only a few required fields in the profile questionnaire. The rest can be completed and updated anytime from your “home page.”
The type of profile you choose depends upon what or who you think will attract the most media attention. For example, a law firm may register a company profile which contains information on the “firm’s” areas of specialty. This is appropriate if every Subscriber of the firm practices the same area of the law. Other firms may not wish to publicize the firm itself but instead, several individual attorneys. This is especially valuable when a lawyer or doctor practices in a unique specialty. In some other cases—a hospital, for instance—may take a company profile to publicize its specialty in maternity care, but also register several of their most high-profile physicians, as well. Another example might be a staffing service run by a female CEO. Unless the company has a unique service, or specializes in serving an usual market, the female CEO is likely to draw the most media attention. Individual profiles still contain some information about the company, but it is more intensely focused on the individual. The opposite is also true about company profiles.
